Ski Dubai is about the only cool place in the UAE in July. As you’d expect in a shopping mall, you can ski, snowboard, toboggan, roll in a giant ball and meet penguins. And don’t worry if you forgot to pack your ski clothes for the desert, you can hire them.
Africa, a land of deserts, lions and ski resorts. Well, one at least. Afriski in Lesotho has operated as a ski resort since 2014. Sitting at 3,000m altitude it is open from June to September and offers everything from accommodation to ski rental, ski schools and apres.

Not strictly a recommendation (and we can’t claim to have visited), but North Korea is due to open its first ski resort, Masik, this December. Boasted to have 110km of piste, 2 hotels and a heliport, getting a visa may be the only problem for a holiday there.
